Along the span of the Old Kent Road, there’s a series of neglected urban spaces which are prone to an accumulation of discarded building materials. Through our friendship with those at the Livesey Exchange, we know there's also little quality social space for the community, and our mission is to enable residents to make meaningful additions to their local area.
On almost all building sites theres are truckloads of timber which are only used once, after which they are simply sent to landfill. As is stands there is no system to collect useable material and repurpose it. Our first project took discard materials from residential refurbishments in the southwark area, using salvaged material to contruct the bar for the central hall of the Livesey Exchange. The was designed to suit what materials were available and accomodate for varying standards of quality.
Ivys On the Bluff: In Construction
2023: Huie Designs
Ivy's On The Bluff is a stunning minimalist residence designed on a rectangular block in the Whitehouse, Westmoreland, Jamaica. There is a picture-perfect panorama of the Caribbean Sea viewable through the glass facade, which was the main architectural consideration when the project was commissioned.
The length of the block was optimised by placing the building in such a way that the inner rooms of the home face some element of the surrounding landscape. A sharp angle can be seen towards the end of the right side of the structure, as it follows the boundary lines of the site. This angle is mimicked by the shape of a triangular jacuzzi.
The design of the house not only takes advantage of the proximity to the sea but also melds seamlessly with its natural surroundings, fostering a tranquil, harmonious environment.
Sunshine Village: Built
2023: Huie Designs
Sunshine Village Complex is an award-winning mixed-use development, comprising of 32 residential and 22 commercial units. Originally designed by Harold Morrison in the early 90s, and previously housing an NCB bank, Hilo supermarket, food court, communal pool, and bar. Located in Negril's Westend near landmarks like Ricks Cafe and Rockhouse Hotel, the structure suffered weathering and poor maintenance, leading to a deteriorated facade.
Our aim was to restore this structure's original prestige by seamlessly blending it with the oceanfront surroundings. Through strategic design, water elements, and premium materials, we revitalised the complex, aiming to attract premium brands and increasing real estate value.
The Images show both the before and after refurbushment
Part of 81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Brixton Uprising, this project consisted of a series of workshops with young people from Dexters adventure playground, culminating in an installation. Exploring the radical history of neighbouring Railton Road, young people devised alternative futures for the playground site and wove local history with their own narratives
